On November 20, 2008, the Greater Northshore Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will formally recognize outstanding philanthropists and philanthropic activity on the Northshore. National Philanthropy Day® is the day set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy–and those people active in the philanthropic community–have made in our lives, our communities and our world. 2008 marks the twenty-third anniversary of this special day in the United States.
On the Northshore, National Philanthropy Day® will be celebrated during an awards luncheon held at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville. This year’s event will feature the presentation of awards in three important categories. Harry A. Warner, Covington native and leader on the Northshore, will be honored as Philanthropist of the Year for his long history of financial support, assistance and service to our non-profit community. Baptist Community Ministries, which has funded healthcare and education initiatives in St. Tammany Parish, will receive the award as Outstanding Foundation. St. Tammany Homestead will receive the award for Outstanding Leadership in Corporate Philanthropy. St. Tammany Homestead has supported healthcare, community development and the arts through its financial gifts and volunteerism throughout the Northshore. >> More
