The 2008 Each of Us/All of Us employee campaign raised enough funds to purchase three new touch-screen computer stations to help patients and their visitors find their way around the hospital. Years of adding-on to the facility have made for a complicated layout, one that sometimes challenges our visitors. Volunteers still man our Information Desks and they are now trained to instruct our guests in the usage of these "wayfinding kiosks."
Our new computer stations welcome visitors at three entrances: the Gause Boulevard entrance, Florida Street entrance and the 12th Street entrance next to the Emergency Room. The customized software not only offers a map to where visitors need to go, but also display a moving red line to demonstrate directions. Maps are also printable and each kiosk includes a new printer. In addition to offering directions, each computer also delivers updated information on hospital activities, making sure that our patients and their visitors receive up-to-the-minute information.
"The response to our first employee campaign was outstanding, with approximately 1/3 of all hospital employees contributing," says Committee member Gayla Armato. "It is good to know that the employees here can work together to purchase something to increase our patients? comfort at SMH."
Funds raised through the 2009 Employee Campaign will support the Employee Benevolent Fund as well as a "Healing Garden" for the new SMH Cancer Center. >> More News
