  • The SMH Parenting Center served 5,695 children and parents in 2008. Year-round classes and workshops teach parents vital skills to help children and teens to thrive.
  • The SMH Fit as a Firefighter summer camp, a Fitness & Nutrition Camp for children who struggle with their weight.
  • Advanced educational seminars for physicians
  • Breast Cancer Awareness activities

PARTNER
SMH recently received the 2009 Platinum Level Quality Award from EQ Health Solutions, recognizing hospitals that achieve significant improvement in the quality of care. Just 28 LA hospitals received the Platinum Level Award.SMH also has twice been named both a “Fit- Friendly Company” by the AHA and a “Best Place to Work” by New Orleans CityBusiness magazine in 2008 and 2009.
INVEST
Certified Lymphedema Therapist, Gertie Parker has joined the staff of the SMH Outpatient Therapy program. The SMH Foundation is helping to fund Gertie’s very specialized work to help treat cancer patients that have developed this chronic condition.
ENRICH
SMH requires all employees to participate in continuing education throughout the year. Our most recent course, 212 degrees, offers insight on how one extra degree of effort takes us from “good” to “great.” Patient satisfaction is the No. 1 goal of all SMH staff, so we constantly develop new methods for excellent service delivery.

Cancer Center
District citizens voted to issue bonds to build a state-of-the art cancer center that will break ground in late 2008. Offering comprehensive on-site services will provide first-class care, closer to home.
Slidell Memorial Hospital
Slidell Memorial Hospital is a full-service 182-bed acute care not-for-profit community hospital. During 2007, the hospital provided services to almost 100,000 patients. Founded in 1959, SMH is the third-largest employer in St. Tammany Parish, employing 1,300 full, part-time and pool clinical and administrative employees. SMH serves as a primary healthcare resource for families in St. Tammany Parish, LA; Pearl River County, MS; and the greater Mississippi Gulf Coast region.

The Donor Bill of Rights was created by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits. It has been endorsed by numerous organizations.
